Description:

Native American, Southwestern United States, ca. mid 20th century CE. A stunning necklace comprised of American currency and turquoise stones. The necklace features Buffalo nickels that are bent to form convex shapes, then welded together to form a domed bead; a modern interpretation of the Native American style of squash blossom beads. Each of the 24 nickel beads displays the buffalo motif on one side and the Native American head on the other. Dispersed along the strand are over 30 disc-shaped turquoise stones. These nickels were minted between 1913 and 1938 and are known as Buffalo or Indian Head nickels. This is truly a unique piece, and wearable with a silver plated lobster clasp! Size (necklace): 16.75" L (42.5 cm); (nickel beads): .75" Diameter (1.9 cm)
