Description:

Ancient Europe, northern Italy, Villanovan culture, ca. 8th to 7th century BCE. A cast-bronze strap fitting typically used in conjunction with elaborate horse bridles. The fitting consists of a sturdy ring with four circular discs protruding from equidistant areas of the obverse. Each discoid ornament is adorned with eight bullseye symbols around the exterior peripheries as well as a quartet of faint bullseyes surrounding a ninth interior symbol. Smooth layers of forest green and dark brown patina have formed across the fitting and nicely complement the lighter beige hue displayed inside the grooves of each bullseye. Size: 4.3" W x 4.2" H (10.9 cm x 10.7 cm); 5.75" H (14.6 cm) on included custom stand.
