Description:

Northern Europe, Viking/Norse culture, ca. 1000 CE. A gorgeous and highly wearable silver ring, the twisted design with a knot at one end and two larger loops surrounded the twisted band at the opposite end, made to be worn by either a man or woman, and probably ultimately deposited in a hoard. Vikings hoarded precious metals, especially silver, to a great degree. In Viking Scotland alone, for example, we know of thirty-one Viking age hoards containing silver - and those are just the ones we know about - while Viking Ireland has nearly double that number! Silver rings of all sizes were a huge component of hoards, and functioned as a wearable form of currency. This example is emblematic of the type. US ring size: 8 Size: 1" in diameter (2.5 cm); 4.1 grams
