Northern Europe, Viking / Norse, ca. 8th to 11th century CE. A beautiful, heavy ring, made from two thick, twisted wires of silver wrapped around each other for half of the band of the ring and then hammered into a single wire for the rest. This would have been a visible sign of wealth, probably worn by a man based on its size, and could have been used as currency, deposited in a river as an offering to the gods, or buried with its owner.
