Northern Europe, Scandinavia, Viking or Norse culture, ca. 900 CE. A lustrous ornament of an ovoid form that is formed from a hammered sheet of high-grade (91.71%) silver. The accessory exhibits passages of stippling in repousse along the periphery that creates a textured border as well as along the interior body that perhaps illustrated abstract iconography or perhaps outlined an inner decorative gap. Silver ornamentation like this was meant to adorn countless items in a Norseman's life such as clothing, horse accoutrements, personal belongings, and weaponry.
