Description:

Northern Europe, Viking or Norse culture, ca. 9th to 11th century CE. A fabulous ring formed from 94% silver sheet with a wide, hammered band that gradually narrows to form thin strips bound in a knot. The front of the ring is stamped with dozens of crescent shapes arranged in four rows, and each half-moon is filled with petite stippling. They were often used as currency or deposited in rivers as offerings to the gods, though they were also buried with their owners upon death. Size: 0.8" W x 0.5" H (2 cm x 1.3 cm); quality of silver: 94%; total weight: 5.4 grams; US ring size 9.5
