Northern Europe, Scandinavia, Viking or Norse culture to Medieval period, ca. 8th to 13th century CE. A forged-iron axe head of a hefty form with a circular socketing shaft, a dense neck, and a slightly curved blade that angles downward to the flared cutting edge. Around the socketing rim are a pair of tabs and a vertical flange on the butt end to facilitate hafting to a handle. Size: 7.25" L x 3" H (18.4 cm x 7.6 cm)
