Description:

Northern Europe, Scandinavia, Viking or Norse culture, ca. 9th to 10th century CE. A forged-iron spear head with a petaloid blade surmounting a conical socketing shaft. The shaft is formed by hammering both sides of the lower body around a mandrill until the peripheries are nearly touching so the weapon could be socketed atop a lengthy wooden pole. Size: 15.25" L x 1.5" W (38.7 cm x 3.8 cm)
