Northern Europe, Viking or Norse culture, ca. 8th to 11th century CE. A gorgeous necklace strung with dozens of tubular, discoid, spherical, and carinated beads carved from carnelian of warm orange and red hues - all artistically strung in a symmetrical design. Four modern gold spacer beads flank the two rounded carnelian beads flanking the centermost faceted carnelian bead. All of the carnelian beads are ancient, strung in modern times and the strand fastens via a gold-filled lobster clasp. Size: 18.5" L (47 cm); largest bead (the centerpiece) measures .75" L x .5" in diameter (1.9 cm x 1.3 cm)
