Description:

Northern Europe, Viking / Norse culture, ca. 800 to 1000 CE. A fine bracelet formed from a single strand of high-grade silver (93%) that is braided into a lovely crescent-form accessory. The terminals are flattened in order to maintain the shape, and the braids along the body are loose but not so much so as to be detrimental to the structural integrity. The piece could have been worn by either a man or a woman, as Vikings of both sexes have been found buried with jewelry similar to this. Vikings hoarded precious metals, especially silver; for example, in Viking Scotland alone, we know of thirty-one Viking age hoards containing silver - and those are just the ones we know about - while Viking Ireland has nearly double that! Size (bracelet): 2.8" W x 2" H (7.1 cm x 5.1 cm); size (wrist opening near terminals): 0.875" W (2.2 cm); quality of silver: 93%; total weight: 31.8 grams.
