Description:

**First Time At Auction**

Pre-Columbian, north coast Peru, Vicus, ca. 500 BCE to 500 CE. A redware stirrup jar featuring the head of an animal, probably a coatimundi, looking upward toward the celestial realm - or at the pourer/drinker - from one end of the handle. This coatimundi definitely has personality; just look at that expressive face with those round and boldly outlined eyes, perky ears, prominent snout, and incised smile. A finely handbuilt redware sculptural work from this early Peruvian culture. Quite adorable! Size: 6.125" in diameter x 6.125" H (15.6 cm x 15.6 cm)
