Description:

Pre-Columbian, North Coast Peru, Vicus, ca. 500 BCE. A large musical ceramic double vessel painted in cream and black hued negative resist, depicting a male lover holding both hands to his chest, atop his female partner who lies on her back. Opposite this sensual scene and joined via a double tubular bridge is a globular bottle adorned with spiral, dotted, and striated motifs. Note the perforations on the back side of the male figure's head and as his nostrils. When the liquid was poured from this vessel, it would produce a whistling sound so that anyone guilty of stealing the chicha within would be discovered! Size: 10" W x 7" H (25.4 cm x 17.8 cm)
