Europe, Victorian, ca. 19th century CE. An oval quartzite - possibly citrine - intaglio of translucent golden and amber hues incised with a nude depiction of Ares and Aphrodite, as well as their infant Eros between. All hold a festoon of billowing fabric to unite them and sprays of flowers as well as a sword (symbolic of Ares) are on the right. In addition to the finely executed carving, the citrine presents gorgeous coloring and attractive inclusions. A lovely intaglio fitted in a 16 karat gold decorative setting. Size: 1.625" W x 1.875" H (4.1 cm x 4.8 cm); 2.5" H (6.4 cm) including gold setting and suspension loop; leather cord and clasp measures 22" L (55.9 cm)
