Description:

Pre-Columbian, Southern Peru, ca. 0 to 300 CE. Very bright and colorful apron or loin cloth made of feathers from tropical bird species most likely traded from cultures further to the north and east. Comprised of hundreds of feathers in orange and blue painstakingly sewn to a native cotton panel with small textile ties to the top. The Nazca were some of the finest potters and extremely skilled at textiles using bold colors and strong symbolism most famously exemplified in the famous and as of yet fully understood Nazca lines. Textile mounted to black cotton backing. Size of textile itself: 14" W x 8.25" H (35.6 cm x 21 cm). Frame size Size: 18" W x 12.25" H (45.7 cm x 31.1 cm)
