Description:

Pre-Columbian, Ecuador, Valdivia, ca. 3500 to 2000 BCE. Most Valdivian Venus figures we come across are ceramic and much smaller than this example. This Venus figure is quite large and actually carved from stone, with characteristic features such as her incised, helmet-shaped coiffure, those voluptuous breasts, as well as a nicely defined visage with almond-shaped eyes, arched brows that merge with the nose, an open mouth and jutting chin. A Rock Princess if you will, among the first Venus Idols in the Americas. Size: 4" W x 7" H (10.2 cm x 17.8 cm)

Valdivian "Venus" figures are among the very earliest Pre-Columbian figures available from the Americas and authentic ones are very rare, in any condition. Large stone ladies like this one are even more unusual.
