Description:

Ancient Egypt, Late Dynastic to Ptolemaic Period, ca. 664 to 30 BCE. An incredibly rare, hollow-molded pottery statue bearing 2 identical depictions of Bes, the bandy-legged dwarf deity responsible for the protection of women and children within a home. Each instance of the feisty deity presents nude with attenuated limbs, a bearded visage, and a tall crown surmounted with feather plumes. The backside of each figure is adorned with a spotted leopard pelt complete with dangling tails stretching well below Bes' heels. Size: 1.25" L x 3.1" W x 5.4" H (3.2 cm x 7.9 cm x 13.7 cm)
