Description:

Native American, Arctic region, ancient Inuit, ca. 1000 to 1700 CE. A fascinating artifact, an ivory fish hook with a broad, curved body, ridges along the sides for stringing line, and a sharp, straight point embedded in one end. The area around the point is caked with ancient adhesive - probably a combination of seal oil and seal blood. Ancient Inuit fish hooks found in Ivvavik National Park (Canada) are made of what appears to be beluga whale teeth, and this may be similar. Size: 5.1" W x 1.6" H (13 cm x 4.1 cm); 4.2" H (10.7 cm) on included custom stand.
