Description:

Roman, Imperial Period, ca. 1st to 3rd century CE. A mold-formed pottery oil lamp of an elegant form with spiraling volutes around the wick spout and concentric rings surrounding the recessed tondo. Within the tondo is a standing figure striding to the right who wears a flowing garment, holds a large cup in his right hand, and with his left hand grips the end of a scarf that is draped over his shoulder. Stamped on the base is a planta pedis (maker's mark) reading "Lossessori S." Size: 5.3" L x 3.4" W x 1.875" H (13.5 cm x 8.6 cm x 4.8 cm)

  • Condition: Minor nicks and abrasions to body, handle, wick spout, and figure, with softening to some finer details, fading to original pigment, and light encrustations, otherwise intact and excellent. Nice earthen deposits throughout and great remains of figural details within tondo. Planta pedis is still clear and legible. Old inventory label beneath base.
