Description:

Pre-Columbian, northern Peru, Lambayeque, ca. 800 to 1000 CE. One of the finer bridge-spouted vessels from this region we have seen! Whistling vessel in two square lobes connected by a bridge spout. Each lobe is decorated with native parrots in high relief. Atop the forward lobe is a mother in labor. She holds her hand to her distended belly as her husband looks on, a child on the other side looks away, a large kero in front with what appears to be a human head in the center. The vessel has a whistle incorporated behind the head of the mother, spout acts as the mouthpiece. Quite rare! Size: 8"L x 7-7/8"H. Provenance: Ex-Simpson Gallery, Houston, TX; ex-private Houston estate. All items legal to buy/sell under U.S. Statute covering cultural patrimony Code 2600, CHAPTER 14, and are guaranteed to be as described or your money back. A Certificate of Authenticity will accompany all winning bids. #109805
