Description:

Pre-Columbian, Costa Rica, Nicoya Peninsula, ca. 1000 to 1500 CE. An intriguing Janus-headed pottery vessel finished in a light-brown slip with intricately-incised geometric motifs along the exterior. The piece is comprised of two "dragon" heads - each with hemispherical eyes, bared teeth, elongated snouts, and spiralized chins - sharing a spherical body with a circular opening for storage, standing upon a trio of conical legs. A wonderful and unusual example from the ancients of Costa Rica. Size: 5" L x 3" H (12.7 cm x 7.6 cm).
