Description:

Ancient Near East, modern day northern Iran, Luristan, ca. 1000 to 600 BCE. A fine, lost wax cast bronze dagger with a narrow handle designed to have an inlaid bone or ivory panel and a crescent-shaped hilt. A classic example of a fine weapon made to be buried with one of the nomadic warriors of this region. An XRF has determined the metal composition is approximately 86% copper and 11% tin - consistent with bronzes from this region from this time period. Size: 14.875" L x 1" W (37.8 cm x 2.5 cm); 12" H (30.5 cm) on included custom stand.

Provenance: private Salisbury, Maryland, USA collection; ex Archaeologia Galleries, Montreal, Canada, prior to 1980.
