Lot 99
Pre-Columbian, Mexico, Guerrero/Mezcala, ca. 500 to 200 BCE. A skillfully executed seated monkey figurine, finely carved from a beautiful greenstone of rich, deep hues. The endearing simian creature presents a long, curled tail, an abstract visage with a pronounced forehead, straight nose, and open mouth, hands meeting across the chest, and upraised knees. The piece demonstrates the Mezcala artisan's command of string-cut techniques resulting in marvelously abstract forms that appeal to contemporary sensibilities! Custom, museum-quality stand. Size: figure itself measures 1.875" W x 3.375" H (4.8 cm x 8.6 cm)
