Pre-Columbian, Costa Rica, Diquis Region, ca. 700 to 1500 CE. A large hand-carved stone figure, made from tan-grey basalt, with the remains of red pigment on its body. The figure stands with hands on its hips and holds something in one hand. Comes with custom stand. Size: 7.6" W x 11.25" H (19.3 cm x 28.6 cm)

The people of central Costa Rica are famous for their stone carvings, many, like this piece, carved from solid blocks of volcanic stone. They seem to have been made to be placed into graves.
