Description:

Pre-Columbian, Gulf Coast Mexico, Veracruz, ca. 6th to 8th century CE. A hollow head from a large Veracruz pottery figure. The naturalistic head has narrow eyes, a delicate nose, and an open mouth; the wide and flared ears display large perforated earspools. The face has black-painted details such as the pupils, broad patches on the cheeks, the nose tip, and a ring around the mouth. Atop the head is a grooved notch stretching from front to back; this was probably used to hold an ornate headdress. This bust is a wonderfully-expressive example of Veracruz pottery artistry! Size: 6.5" H (16.5 cm); 11.75" H (29.8 cm) on included custom stand.
