Description:

Pre-Columbian, Gulf Coast of Mexico, Veracruz culture, ca. 5th to 7th century CE. A standing pottery figure adorned in white pigment while wearing elaborate vestments and a hoop-form headdress. The smiling figure (or "sonriente" in Spanish) peers forward with large, ovoid eyes and holds both hands up in a welcoming gesture. Intricately stippled bands adorn the front of the tunic while the neck is adorned with a thick scarf as well as a beaded necklace. Size: 2.5" L x 6" W x 8.5" H (6.4 cm x 15.2 cm x 21.6 cm); 12.5" H (31.8 cm) on included custom stand.

  • Condition: Repair to proper right foot, with chips and light adhesive residue along break lines. Fading to pigment, with softening to some finer details, and light earthen deposits, otherwise in great condition. Nice preservation to overall form and pigment in most areas. Figure is adhered to display stand and cannot be removed.
