Description:

Pre-Columbian, Vera Cruz/Veracruz, Mexico, ca. 400 to 600 CE. A wonderful pottery head and neck of an elderly person with intriguingly simian features - just look at those ears! The face is quite expressive with almond-shaped eyes, slightly parted lips, and incised striations wrinkling every surface of the visage, from the forehead to the cheeks and jowls. Some white pigment remains on the surface. A wonderful example. Custom, wood stand. Size: 2.75" W x 3.875" H (7 cm x 9.8 cm); 5.25" H (13.3 cm) on stand

Provenance: Ex - private LA County collection acquired before 1990
