Description:

Pre-Columbian, Gulf Coast of Mexico, Vera Cruz, ca. 600 to 900 CE. A hand-built pottery dignitary figure seated with one leg up and the other curved under his thigh. The figure holds one arm out, perhaps as a gesture of welcome, while he wears a large, stippled headdress atop his brow as well as a tied loincloth around his waist. Size: 4.625" L x 4.9" W x 6.625" H (11.7 cm x 12.4 cm x 16.8 cm); 7.2" H (18.3 cm) on included custom stand.

Provenance: private New York, New York, USA collection; ex-Barry Kernerman collection, Toronto, Canada; ex-Samuel Dubiner collection, Tel Aviv, Israel, acquired from the 1960s to 1970s
