Description:

Pre-Columbian, Mexico, Vera Cruz culture, ca. 6th to 8th century CE. A beautiful incised ceramic vessel, its sides decorated with fantastical motifs of quadrupeds - including what may be a dog - and feathered creatures, all referencing mythological figures. The incised motifs contrast with the dark red pigment of the raised surface. The vessel's walls are gently rounded and thin, and it stands on an elegant, narrow disc foot. Size: 4.75" W x 4.4" H (12.1 cm x 11.2 cm)

Provenance: private southern California, USA collection, acquired in the 1970s to mid-1980s
