Pre-Columbian, Veracruz, East Mexico, El Faisan type, Classic period, ca 300 to 600 CE. A fascinating pottery vessel in the form of a female painted in typical El Faisan fashion with sienna-hued geometric motifs on a beige ground. Her expressive countenance appears almost Olmecoid or proto-Maya with double pupils, a rounded nose, and an extending tongue, while her body presents as both skeletal and pregnant at once with attenuated arms, incised fingers, a giant, bulging belly, and a delineated rib cage. Size: 5.1" W x 6.9" H (13 cm x 17.5 cm)
