Pre-Columbian, Gulf Coast of Mexico, Remojadas,Veracruz, ca. 600 to 800 CE. A terracotta effigy head from a full figure of a fierce warrior with a lively countenance, impressively long ear flares, and wrapped headdress comprised of several incised coils to look like textile with lappets protruding at either side. Fabulous details on this nicely modeled face including a parted mouth with filed teeth, well executed facial hair, and elegant almond-shaped eyes. Custom stand. Size: 9.5" W x 6.5" H (24.1 cm x 16.5 cm)

Provenance: Ex- private New York collection of Victor Johnson, acquired in the 1960s and then by descent.
