Pre-Columbian, Western Venezuela, Andean Region, Timoto-Cuica culture, ca. 1000 CE. A rare example of a hand-built pottery pipe from the Timoto-Cuica culture. The elongated triangular body has a slender mouthpiece on one end and pointed shoulders on the other, with a stylized anthropomorphic head that doubles as the neck and receptacle. The intriguing countenance bears pierced hemispherical eyes, a tab-shaped nose above parted lips, protruding tabs for the ears and frontal 'horn,' and a thick-brimmed hat that forms the rim. Size: 5.125" L x 1.875" W x 2.8" H (13 cm x 4.8 cm x 7.1 cm)
