Pre-Columbian, Ecuador, Valdivian culture, Formative Period, ca. 2000 to 1500 BCE. A large, hand-built pottery fragment of a female idol figure known as a Venus with angular shoulders, petite breasts, a tall coiffure, and incised facial features. Her body exhibits remains of russet-hued pigment that stands out from her light-brown head. Size: 0.8" L x 1.2" W x 2.5" H (2 cm x 3 cm x 6.4 cm); 4.25" H (10.8 cm) on included custom stand.

Provenance: private Hawaii, USA collection, acquired from 2000 to 2010; ex-Hans Juergen Westermann collection, Germany
