Description:

Pre-Columbian, ancient Ecuador, Valdivian culture, ca. 3000 - 2500 BCE. Among the earliest and most desirable artifacts from ancient Ecuador. The form of this ceremonial stone axe head is exceptional, featuring a very smooth pillow-like volume and pot-of-gold-like shape. The surface exhibits a rich, matte-finish patina, evidencing the significant age of this object. The subtle contours and satin-like, smooth feel of the patina make this artifact a pleasure to hold in one's hands. Mineral deposits of various colors obscure, yet enhance, the beauty of the muted amber colored stone beneath.  Exhibits a wonderful, rich matte-finish patina, with tiny nicks at edges from use. Size:  2-1/4" (5.5 cm) x 1-3/4" (4.5 cm) Provenance: Ex-Powell Collection, White City, Oregon, acquired prior to 1964. All items legal to buy/sell under U.S. Statute covering cultural patrimony Code 2600, CHAPTER 14, and are guaranteed to be as described or your money back.
