Lot 93A
Pre-Columbian, Ecuador, Chorrera culture, ca. 500 BCE. This is a grey stone, simplified human representation, with a flattened body, hands held to sides with individually-rendered fingers, the legs separated, and the head with fine facial features. The eyes are outlined (and may once have been inlaid) and the ears have large carved ornaments. This is a very rare example. Size: 3.6" W x 8.5" H (9.1 cm x 21.6 cm)
Two scientific testing lab reports from Orenda (Investigation and Analysis of Artifacts and Antiquities) and Frank Preusser & Associates, Inc., accompany this lot. The object was tested for machine tooling and decompositional wear, and found to be authentic by both.
