Description:

**First Time At Auction**

Pre-Columbian, northern Peru, Inca Empire, ca. 1470 to 1532 CE. An intriguing example of a hand-built and highly burnished vessel comprised of a pair of conjoined circular vessels boasting either male or female figural elements. The taller vessel exhibits male features like a 'beaded' necklace, a stern expression, and exposed genitalia near the base, and the female jarlet exhibits protruding breasts, delineated genitalia, and black-painted ornamentation around her forehead. The faces feature puffy eyes, pursed lips, and prominent noses, and their flared 'coiffures' double as the vessel's rims. Each vessel has a flat base for stabilization, and a striped strap handle arches between the versos. Size: 5" L x 3.5" W x 2.8" H (12.7 cm x 8.9 cm x 7.1 cm)
