Ancient Near East, Northwestern Iran, Luristan, ca. 1200 to 800 BCE. A cast-bronze short sword of an unusual form bearing a congruous handle and blade. The trapezoidal handle enabled a soldier to easily wield the weapon while the elongated petaloid blade tapers to form a rounded tip. Layers of naturally-occurring patina in hues of russet, green, and azurite have formed across the weapon. Size: 14.3" L x 2.75" W (36.3 cm x 7 cm)
