Description:

Pre-Columbian, Western Venezuela, Trujillo, ca. 1000 to 1400 CE. A pair of anthropomorphic statuettes similar in style. The smaller one is a hollow earthenware rattle. The sex of both figures is unclear, but their highly stylized form is incredibly distinctive - like a blend of a human figure and a frog. Both have flattened facial features and flat feet, with arms through out to the side. The larger has holes drilled through it, maybe for suspension or maybe for attaching rings of precious metal. Size: 2.4" W x 2.6" H (6.1 cm x 6.6 cm)

Provenance: Ex-Peter Arnovick collection, San Francisco, CA
