Description:

Pre-Columbian, ca. 200 to 1500 CE. These are three small musical instruments. One of the rattles has the shape of a long-nosed animal like a capybara or something similar; the flute is shaped like beak or bill from a bird. The third rattle has relief decorations around both ends and an anthropomorphic shape on one side. These complementary pieces remind us of the importance of music in everyday life in the pre-Columbian New World. Size of largest: 3-1/2"L x 2"W x 1-3/4"H (9 cm x 5 cm 4.4 cm).

Provenance: Ex-Adeon Gallery, Chicago before 1970
