Description:

Roman, Imperial Period, ca. 1st to 3rd century CE. A nice set of two free-blown glass vessels made from translucent material and exhibiting dainty forms used by Roman women to hold perfumes or other scented liquids. First is a turquoise-hued vessel with a spherical body resting beneath a cylindrical neck and an in-folded rim. Second is a slender vessel of faint peach hues with a teardrop-shaped body, a narrow neck, and an uneven, in-folded rim. Faint layers of rainbow iridescence have formed across both compositions. Size of largest (turquoise hue): 1.25" W x 3.25" H (3.2 cm x 8.3 cm)

Provenance: ex-Stein collection, Bloomfield Hills, Michigan, USA, acquired prior to 2010

  • Condition: Both vessels have light encrustations and abrasions, with smaller vessel containing remains of its original contents within the body, otherwise intact and very good. Faint iridescence throughout. Neither vessel can stand upright unassisted.
