Pre-Columbian, Costa Rica, Greater Nicoya, Pataky, Period VI, ca. 1000 to 1350 CE. A pair of hand-built pottery figures covered in an orange ground and decorated with dark gray to black pigment. Both female figures present nude with black tattooing across their bodies and enormous eyes on the sides of their heads. Size of largest: 2.125" L x 2.3" W x 3.625" H (5.4 cm x 5.8 cm x 9.2 cm)

Provenance: private New York, New York, USA collection; ex-Stanley Kaufman& Sigrun Rampoldt collection, acquired early 1970s from Burt Weidhopf
