Description:

Pre-Columbian, Colombia, Highland Narino region, Tuza cultural complex, Narino culture, ca. 600 to 1500 CE. A lovely pair of pottery ocarinas: one blackware and another bichrome. Larger of the 2, the blackware instrument presents in the form of a conch shell with the figure of a monkey at the top and a pair of stylized simian figures incised on either side of the blow hole. Liberal remains of red pigment fill the incisions on the surface. Alternatively, the polychrome flute features the form of a snail adorned with red-on-beige triangular, steppe, and lattice motifs. Blow into the mouth of each to produce a melodious tune of up to 4 different tones! Size of larger (blackware): 6.3" L x 2.8" W x 2.5" H (16 cm x 7.1 cm x 6.4 cm)

  • Condition: Bichrome ocarina has minor chips to blow and thumb holes. Both have light surface wear with nicks and abrasions as shown, all commensurate with age. Otherwise, both are intact, excellent, and playable with nice preservation of decoration.

For shipments of oversize items, Artemis Gallery will assist the buyer in working with a third-party shipping provider. For shipments outside of the USA, customs and duties may apply upon entry into said country, and this fee, if any, is the buyer's responsibility.
