Pre-Columbian, Valley of Mexico, Mixtec people, ca. 1200 to 1500 CE. A group of 2 hand-built and stone-burnished pottery grater bowls - the lighter bowl with tab-shaped feet and incised crosshatching within the center of the basin, and the darker, larger bowl with tubular legs and dozens of circular grater impressions within the center. Size (larger): 8.875" Diameter x 4" H (22.5 cm x 10.2 cm); (lighter colored): 8.6" Diameter x 3.9" H (21.8 cm x 9.9 cm)

  • Condition: Both vessels with professional repairs and restoration, with resurfacing and overpainting along new material and break lines. Abrasions and fading to pigment, with light earthen deposits, and scattered areas of pitting, otherwise in nice condition. Great grater markings within each basin.
