Description:

Pre-Columbian, West Mexico, Michoacan, ca. 500 to 100 BCE. A set of two hand-built pottery female figures known as "pretty ladies," each standing nude atop slender legs. The first figure had a red necklace around her neck as well as a zigzag-adorned headband, and the other, taller figure presents with a centrally-parted coiffure and sizable, openwork earrings. Size of largest: 1.75" W x 3.7" H (4.4 cm x 9.4 cm); 4.1" H (10.4 cm) on included custom stand.

Provenance: Ex-old private Ohio, USA collection, acquired in the 1970s; ex-Barry Dieterly collection; ex-Arte Xibalba, Osprey, Florida, USA, 2004; ex-Murray Korda, Massachusetts, USA, 1960s

  • Condition: Both figures have small chips, light abrasions, fading to pigment, and minor earthen deposits, otherwise intact and very good. Great preservation to figural forms, and nice remains of pigment.
