Description:

Pre-Columbian, Southern Mexico, Guerrero region, Mezcala culture, ca. 600 to 100 BCE. A set of 2 hand-carved diorite pendants, each exhibiting a wondrous palette of dark green and black hues. The larger stone features a shallow lip on one side while the darker pendant bears a smooth groove on the verso, and both bear a biconically drilled suspension hole around the periphery. The abstract, oblong forms were perhaps believed to hold magical properties, perhaps as representations of animals or even celestial bodies, and were likely intended for wear by the dead. Size of largest: 4" L x 2.75" W x 0.75" H (10.2 cm x 7 cm x 1.9 cm)
