Pre-Columbian, Belize, Preclassic Maya Period, ca. 250 BCE to 250 CE. A fine pair of sharp, bi-facially knapped, mottled grey and beige chert macroblade "daggers" - an item famous from the Maya site of Cuello in northern Belize and found at several archaeological sites throughout southern Mesoamerica and the Caribbean, including at Tikal. Although they are sometimes called "daggers," they are only found in ritual deposits, and their form suggests a ceremonial purpose rather than an actual tool. Largest attached to wooden frame, smaller blade loose but stand would be provided for small fee. Size of largest: 9.875" L x 2.125" W (25.1 cm x 5.4 cm) Size of frame: 18.75" L x 2.125" W x 12.5" H (47.6 cm x 5.4 cm x 31.8 cm)
