Description:

Pre-Columbian, Belize, Maya, Late Classic Period, ca. 550 to 900 CE. A set of 2 hand-knapped chert daggers from ancient Belize, one with dark black and gray hues, and the other with creamy beige, tan, and gray colors. The petaloid blades have sharpened edges, sturdy handles, and thick midribs. Knives of this type were likely ceremonial rather than utilitarian and have been found at several archaeological sites throughout southern Mesoamerica and the Caribbean in funerary or ritualistic deposits. Size of largest: 9.6" L x 2.6" W (24.4 cm x 6.6 cm)
