Lot 113
Pre-Columbian, Ecuador, Jama Coaque, ca. 500 to 1000 CE. A pair of handmade figural pottery lime pots (lime powder enhanced the power of hallucinogenic drugs) in the form of seated figures, one with ankles crosses and hands upon knees, elaborately bedecked with a headdress, earspools, pectoral, armlets, bracelets, and anklets, all painted with beautiful blue-green pigment. The other sits with upraised knees and lifts his arms to hold a tumpline with a whit striped pattern around his head and the rim of the vessel behind. He too is adorned with blue bracelets and earspools. The details of both figures' faces are nicely delineated with open mouths and coffee bean shaped eyes making for very expressive visages. A wonderful pair of figural lime containers with gorgeous coloration from the ancient Jama Coaque culture. Size: both measure about 2.5" W x 3" H (6.4 cm x 7.6 cm)
