Description:

**First Time At Auction**

Pre-Columbian, Peru, Inca Empire, ca. 1470 to 1532 CE. A set of 2 hand-carved stone offering vessels known as canopa, each resembling an abstract llama or alpaca. The example carved from dark stone contains a shallow offering receptacle in the back and a slender, flat-topped head while the white stone figure has a deep offering cavity and a raised head with perky ears. The entire canopa would be buried in a field or beneath the animals' corral to protect the llamas or alpacas.
