Description:

Ancient Greece, Attic, ca. 5th to 4th century BCE. A gathering of 2 wheel-thrown pottery drinking vessels known as skyphoi (sing. skyphos), each with a deep basin and a pair of parabolic handles projecting from opposite sides of the shoulder. Each vessel is supported by a squat foot and exhibits surfaces enveloped in layers of deep, jet-black glaze that has developed thin layers of silvery iridescence. Size of largest: 6.25" L x 9.2" W x 2.4" H (15.9 cm x 23.4 cm x 6.1 cm)

  • Condition: Repairs and minor restoration to each vessel, with resurfacing and overpainting along new material and break lines. Minor abrasions and earthen deposits, otherwise in nice condition. Great remains of glaze throughout.
