Southeast Asia, Indonesia, Timor Island, ca. first half of the 20th century CE. A lovely set of two hand-woven textiles made from natural fibers in a myriad of vivid colors. The brown-hued textile betel nut satchel has a shallow interior cavity with sewn seams decorated with blue-and-white beads, a tasseled lower periphery, a tied upper handle with three bone rings, and a body decorated with colorful cruciform, diamond, and floral motifs. The larger textile, perhaps a blanket or rug, is composed of several colorful strips embellished with striped, zigzagged, or floral motifs. The patterned segments alternate between striped panels of varying widths that create an eye-catching presentation. Size of largest: 63.5" L x 37" W (161.3 cm x 94 cm).
